Detailed Itinerary – 10 Days Zambezi and Victoria Falls

DAY 1 – 4: MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE

Spend three nights in Mana Pools National Park which is a popular national park in Zimbabwe known for its abundance of wildlife and bird sightings along the Zambezi River.

Fly into Zimbabwe and connect with a domestic flight to Mana Pools National Park, you will spend your three nights at Nyamatusi Camp – perched on the banks of the Zambezi River.

While in one of the wildest and most remote parts of Africa, this lodge offers an authentic experience in a corner of Africa that remains relatively untouched. On game drives, watch drama of the bush unfold before your eyes, with the chance to spot zebras, kudus and elands.

Head out on a bush walk with a guide, following along wildlife tracks and canoe down the Zambezi to see elephants bathing in the river.

Day’s Highlights – go birdwatching for sightings of any of the park’s 380 species, venture out on a canoe safari to spot riverside wildlife.

DAY 4 – 7: LAKE KARIBA, ZIMBABWE

Explore Lake Kariba – the world’s largest man-made lake, the lake is known for its stunning red sunsets which make for great sunset cruising.

Fly to Lake Kariba, where you will spend three nights at Bumi Hills Lodge. Set amongst the hills, the lodge boasts the perfect view of Lake Kariba and the rich wildlife that line its shores. You will wake up on the sounds of birds chirping and splashing in the lake, and go to sleep with the vista of a fiery Zimbabwean sunset over the very same lake.

Spend time fishing on the lake as you try to catch the iconic tiger fish, considered one of the most exciting game fish. For incredible wildlife sightings, head out for a private vehicle to spot some of the wildlife including the resident lions.

Day’s Highlights – Take a boat out onto Zambezi River to see elephant and hippo populations, sit by the campfire and gaze up at the starry night above.

DAY 7: VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE

Visit and experience Victoria Falls “The Smoke That Thunders” – one of the world’s most impressive waterfalls.

From Lake Kariba, you will take a flight to Victoria Falls where you will stop off for an afternoon tour of Zimbabwean side of the falls which is considered the best side to see the falls. Zimbabwe offers sixteen different viewpoints to see this incredible waterfall, bisecting the rainforest for twice as much viewing.

Then continue to the Upper Zambezi River with stop for a break in the little town of Victoria Falls, full of vibrant cafes and a chance to enjoy High Tea.

Day’s Highlights – enjoy High Tea at the famous colonial – era Victoria Falls Hotel with a magnificent view of Victoria Falls, See one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

DAY 7 – 10: UPPER ZAMBEZI RIVER, ZAMBIA

From Victoria Falls, you will be transferred to Zambia for three nights at Tongabezi Lodge. This beautiful lodge set right on the edge of the Upper Zambezi River is the perfect location to explore both the majestic Victoria Falls , the plains and wildlife of Zambia.

Relax by the pool before taking a sunset cruise down the river – with sundowner in hand for the ultimate unwinding experience set amongst incredible wildlife scenes. We can arrange for you to see Victoria Falls, from the Zambian side this time, with the opportunity to swim in Devil’s Pool on the edge of the falls for a real thrill and unparalleled views of the falls.

Once your trip has come to an end, transfer to Livingstone to catch your flight home.

Day’s Highlights – try catching Zambezi’s boisterous tiger fish once more, Go on an extreme jet boat ride down the Zambezi River at up to 90 km/hour.

On this 10 Days Zambezi and Victoria Falls Safari, all visitors must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveler.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest South African Embassy or Consulate.

220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the government in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.

Currency:

Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.

Clothing:

Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.

Baggage:

Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.

Water:

You will find many different of opinions of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water, especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration.

Health;

South Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards to malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential.

You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long-sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or a safari hat.

Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
