This 4 Days Mount Bisoke and Chimpanzee Tour gives you an opportunity to trek the playful chimpanzees in Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park, where you will meet and spend an hour with a habituated chimpanzee troop in their natural habitat.

On this Rwanda Safari, you will also hike Mount Bisoke – one of the eight volcanoes making up the Virunga Volcanoes Chain.

Detailed Itinerary 4 Days Mount Bisoke and Chimpanzee Tour

Day 1. Pick Up, Mount Bisoke Hike

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali as early as 4:30 am and transfer to Volcanoes National Park for a Mount Bisoke Hike. Arrive at the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about the experience which starts at exactly 7:30 am. In the briefing, a senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations concerning the hiking experience.

After the experience, drive to the starting point – Bisoke Trail Starting Point where the hiking starts exactly at 08:00 am. For the hiking experience, it is recommended you hire a porter to help you with your backpack and a hike stick.

The Bisoke Hike to and from the summit takes approximately 4-6 hours, on your way to the top of the summit you will pass through a series of vegetation types, enjoy views of the scenic surrounding and many more. At the top of the volcanoes you will be rewarded by magnificent views of mist covering that volcano, an opportunity for a memorable pictures and the Crater Lake, from the summit you will descend back to the starting point. Here you will meet your safari driver-guide and head back to the lodge. Spend the rest of the day at relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2. Drive to Lake Kivu, Boat Tour

After a leisurely breakfast, check out of the lodge and journey to the beautiful Lake Kivu. When you arrive at your lodge situated on the shores of the lake, you will check-in, enjoy lunch and in the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on Lake Kivu enjoying views of the surrounding area.

Take some moments on the beautiful sands of the lake and beautiful photos of the sunset. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park, Canopy Walk

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, check out and journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park while enjoy beautiful views of the rolling hills. Arrive in the park in time for lunch at your lodge, in the afternoon you will head out for a Canopy Walk –a50 meters metallic bridge suspended over the Nyungwe Forest Canopy. As you walk, you will enjoy a bird eye’s view of birds, black and white colobus monkeys and the surrounding rainforest.

After this amazing experience, return to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Spend one hour with chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and drive to Kigali

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park for chimpanzee trekking, join other visitors at the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of chimpanzees and in the forest. Head to the starting point and enter into the forest search for chimpanzees, the trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzees. Upon locating the troop, spend one hour watching the troops feed, play and groom each other. You are free to take as many photos and videos as you like.

After this amazing experience, you will return to your lodge for lunch and later check out and drive back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at airport bringing your safari to an end.
