With 10 suites, this lodge has been beautifully redesigned in harmony with its natural surroundings and re-opened in June 2025. Its location is second to none and gorillas have been known to visit the grounds, the brilliant forest rangers onsite ensure sighting on every trek. In addition to exciting primate encounters, there are also guided walks through the lush and incredibly biodiverse rainforest to scenic waterfalls and organic spa treatments with jungle views, all followed by sundowners around the fire and memorable dinners in the warm glow of the dining room.

The Lodge

Strategically situated on a hillside overlooking the jungle canopy, Gorilla Forest Lodge is a newly revamped A&K Sanctuary Lodge, the most beautiful place to stay within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – making it a standout among the luxury lodges for gorilla trekking in Uganda.

This beautifully design property exudes a hidden – away feeling  with expansive jungle views through the floor-to ceiling windows and the sense the each chic suite is embedded in the mist – shrouded forest. Distinctive design elements using locally crafted materials root the lodge in its setting.

The 10 standalone suites are set apart amid the trees for added seclusion, each with a private viewing deck and sculptural hanging chairs from which you can watch monkeys, rare and wonderful birds and butterflies. Every morning, sunrise is breathtaking – pale pastel light, ethereal mist shrouding the canopy, the soundtrack of the primeval forest walking up. Beds are supremely comfortable canopied four – poster, and bathrooms have large round tubs for languorous soaking surrounded by nature.

The beating heart of the lodge is an indoor – outdoor lounge bar and restaurant space overlooking the rainforest, where earthy terracotta tones, deeply comfortable sofas, textured wall hangings and a double – height wood – beamed ceiling combine to create a contemporary jungle cocoon. In the evenings, the resident musician plays traditional African folk songs on a harp while guests enjoy sundowners and exchange gorilla tales around the campfire. Other facilities include a spa (with two treatment rooms overlooking a stream for facials and massages using organic products made in Africa by Healing Earth), a chic and well-stocked boutique selling locally made products and souvenirs, and the Explorer’s Lounge, where you will find maps and a selection of books on the flora, fauna and culture of Bwindi and Uganda. With nature all around, you will want to be primed for any animal sightings, guests are supplied with Leica binoculars and there are spotting scopes on the decks.

Following the sustainability focused revamp in 2025, Gorilla Forest Lodge’s design and community – first approach to conservation mean it is a standard bearer for responsible travel in the region.

Every suite at Gorilla Forest Camp is set in its own jungle perch and has a persona attendant to fulfil your every need. For enhanced wildlife viewing from your veranda (and at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park generally), state –of-the-art Leica binoculars are provided for every guest on arrival and also available in the Explorer’s Lounge.

Also, each suite has a minibar, desk, telephone and safe, plus two sculptural hanging chairs made from ribs of varnished wood, suspended from the veranda porch and ideal for observing monkeys. Electric blankets are available for chilly evenings and there are yoga mats for anyone keep to stretch before or after their jungle treks.

How to get to Gorilla Forest Lodge

Gorilla Forest Lodge is accessed by light aircraft, with a 2 hour driver from Kihihi Airstrip to the lodge. The flight time to Kihihi Airstrip is 1 hour 45 minute from Entebbe International Airport.

From Kampala, it is a journey approximately 8-9 hours’ drive.
