Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver-guide and transferred to Volcanoes National Park which is a journey of 3 hours’ drive away. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and visit the Dian Fossey Research Camp

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas. In groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and head into the forest searching for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Spend a precious hour in their presence as you watch them play, feed and groom.

Retrace back to the starting point, meet your driver guide and return to your lodge for lunch and short rest. In the afternoon you will head to Dian Fossey Research Center where you will get a deeper insight on the conservation of mountain gorillas and the research conducted on them. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and visit the Batwa People

After an early breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with border crossing either at Katuna or Cyanika Border, arrive in time for lunch at your lodge afternoon. In the afternoon you will go for a cultural experience in the Batwa Community, here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, visit the medicine man, witness the demonstration of their high skilled hunting tactics among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Enjoy an early breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking rules, conducted by a ranger guide. In groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and led by an armed ranger guide, head into the forest searching for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on their movement and the location of the gorilla family assigned to you.

Spend one hour in their presence as you watch these gentle giants, play, feed and groom each other. You are allowed to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off as it irritates the gorillas. After the trek, you will return to the park headquarter to meet your guide and embark on a journey to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi – the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest in Africa. On arrival, you will check in at your lodge and spend the evening at rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Boat Safari and transfer back to Kigali City

Enjoy a delicious breakfast and then go for a boat ride on the calm waters of Lake Bunyonyi, visiting several islands in the lake while your guide narrates the legendary stories of each island.

With your packed lunch boxes, bid farewell to Lake Bunyonyi and journey back to Kigali City where you will be dropped off at the airport in time for your flight back home.
